Day one almost
Ok, so our flight was set to leave on Saturday May 31st at 2:25 PM from Philadelphia. We left Chambersburg PA at 8:30am to get to the airport by 11:30 which gave us plenty of time to go through everything we needed to go through with some time to spare. It was raining when we got to the airport in Philly. At about 2:00 we were just about ready to board when we look up and see that our flight has been delayed to 3:15. So we just keep waiting. At one point, a lady called my name to the front counter where she told me there that our flight had been delayed until 4:15 due to bad weather in NYC- JFK airport. Well because that flight was leaving so much later, we were going to miss our connection. We were given two options. We could either take a 4 something flight to Atlanta, and then to Salt Lake City and then fly to Fairbanks the next day (today) or we could stay in Philly and fly out tomorrow (today) from Philly to Salt Lake City to Fairbanks. In either case we were either going to stay in the airport all night and the next day in Salt Lake City, or stay in Philly airport for a day. Of course we could get a hotel at either place, but the airport would not accomidate for weather delays or cancellations. We decided it would be better to stay in Philly. It took over an hour or so for them to find our luggage and then we were off. We looked for a hotel that had free shuttle to and from the airport. We really didn't want to stay in the airport all night long. So we found a pretty cheap hotel and took the shuttle there. We rested the rest of the day and night. Today we got up and ate breakfast that the hotel was so kind of provide :) and then we took the shuttle to the airport. We had to check out at 12 and our flight today doesn't leave until 5:38. Needless to say, we will have been in the airport for about 5 hours today before we fly out. I truly beleive that God is good and is in control. Erin has never flown and was having some real anxiety from flying out of JFK due to that being one of the airports where the attacks of 911 happened. There also were some sketchy people at the airport yesterday that made even me feel a little uneasy. It ended up being a blessing. We don't have to fly into or out of JFK now and the weather is perfect. I am very excited to be heading to AK today. We will get there at almost midnight their time.... that is about 4 in the morning our time.... (Eastern Standard). We should be pretty exhausted when we get there and it should be light out if everyone is correct in what they say. So Day one started a little shaky but I think today will be a lot better!! I am very excited to see our new home for the next 3 months.
